Renegar
es una de las estrategias predilectas del ego para fortalecerse. Cada
queja es una historia inventada por la mente y la creemos ciegamente. No
importa si manifestamos nuestras quejas o si las pensamos en silencio.
Algunos egos sobreviven fácilmente a base de lamentos únicamente, quizás
porque no tienen mucho más con lo cual identificarse. Cuando somos presa de esa clase de ego, nos lamentamos
habitualmente, en particular de los demás. Sin embargo, es algo que
hacemos inconscientemente, lo cual significa que no sabemos lo que
hacemos. Aplicar rótulos mentales negativos a los demás, ya sea en su
cara o cuando se habla de ellos con otros, o sencillamente cuando se
piensa en ellos, suele ser uno de los componentes de este patrón.
Utilizar adjetivos ultrajantes es la forma más cruda de esos rótulos y
de la necesidad del ego de tener la razón y triunfar sobre los demás:
“idiota, perra, imbécil”, son pronunciamientos definitivos contra los
cuales no hay argumento posible. En el siguiente nivel más bajo en la
escala de la inconciencia están los gritos y las injurias, y bastante
cerca, está la violencia física. El resentimiento es la emoción que acompaña a las lamentaciones y a
los rótulos mentales, y refuerza todavía más el ego. El resentimiento
equivale a sentir amargura, indignación, agravio u ofensa. Resentimos la
codicia de la gente, su deshonestidad, su falta de integridad, lo que
hace, lo que hizo en el pasado, lo que dijo, lo que no hizo, lo que
debió o no hacer. Al ego le encanta. En lugar de pasar por alto la
inconciencia de los demás, la incorporamos en su identidad. ¿Quién lo hace? Nuestra inconciencia, nuestro ego. Algunas veces, la
“falta” que percibimos en otra persona ni siquiera existe. Es una
interpretación equivocada, una proyección de una mente condicionada para
ver enemigos en los demás y elevarse por encima de ellos. En otras
ocasiones, la falta puede existir pero la amplificamos al fijarnos en
ella, a veces hasta el punto de excluir todo lo demás. Y fortalecemos en
nosotros aquello contra lo cual reaccionamos en otra persona. No reaccionar al ego de los demás es una de las formas más eficaces
no solamente de trascender el ego propio sino también de disolver el ego
colectivo de los seres humanos. Pero solamente podemos estar en un
estado donde no hay reacción si podemos reconocer que el comportamiento
del otro viene del ego, que es una expresión de la disfunción colectiva
de la humanidad. Cuando reconocemos que no es personal, se pierde la
compulsión de reaccionar como si lo fuera. Al no reaccionar frente al
ego logramos hacer aflorar la cordura en los demás, es decir, oponer la
conciencia incondicionada a la condicionada. En ocasiones quizás sea necesario tomar medidas prácticas para
protegernos contra personas profundamente inconscientes. Y podemos
hacerlo sin crear enemistad. Sin embargo, la mayor protección es
permanecer en la conciencia. Una persona se convierte en enemiga cuando
personalizamos la inconciencia de su ego. No reaccionar no es señal de
debilidad sino de fuerza. Otra forma de expresar la ausencia de reacción
es el perdón. Perdonar es pasar por alto o no reparar. No reparamos en
el ego sino que miramos la cordura alojada en la esencia de todos los
seres humanos. Al ego le encanta quejarse y resentirse no solamente con respecto a
otras personas, sino también a las situaciones. Lo mismo que se le hace a
una persona se le puede hacer a una situación: convertirla en enemiga.
La implicación siempre es: esto no debería estar sucediendo; no quiero
estar aquí; no quiero tener que hacer esto; es una injusticia conmigo. Por supuesto el peor enemigo del ego es el momento presente, es
decir, la vida misma. No se deben confundir las quejas con el hecho de
hacer ver a una persona una deficiencia o un error a fin de que pueda
corregirlo. Y abstenerse de quejarse no significa necesariamente tolerar
la mala calidad o la mala conducta. No es cuestión de ego decirle a un
mesero que la sopa está fría y que debe calentarse, siempre y cuando nos
atengamos a los hechos, los cuales siempre son neutros. Renegar, es
decir “Cómo se atreve a traerme una sopa fría”. Hay allí un “yo” al cual
le encanta sentirse personalmente ofendido por la sopa fría y que va a
sacar el mayor provecho de la situación, un “yo” que disfruta cuando
encuentra la falta en el otro. Las quejas a las cuales nos referimos están al servicio del ego, no
del cambio. Algunas veces es obvio que el ego realmente no desee cambiar
a fin de poder continuar quejándose. Trate de atrapar a la voz de su
mente en el momento mismo en que se queja de algo, y reconózcala por lo
que es: la voz del ego, nada más que un patrón mental condicionado, un
pensamiento.Cada vez que tome nota de esa voz, también se dará cuenta de
que usted no es la voz sino el ser que toma conciencia de ella. En
efecto, usted es la conciencia consciente de la voz. Allá en el fondo
está la conciencia, mientras que la voz, el pensador, está en primer
plano. Es así como usted se libera del ego, de la mente no observada. Tan
pronto como tome conciencia del ego que mora en usted, deja de ser ego
para convertirse en un viejo patrón mental condicionado. El ego implica
inconciencia. La conciencia y el ego no pueden coexistir. El viejo
patrón o hábito mental puede sobrevivir y reaparecer durante un tiempo
porque trae el impulso de miles de años de inconciencia colectiva, pero
